What is lipoid proteinosis?
Lipoid proteinosis (LP) is a rare disease that affects the skin and the brain. Three distinctive features of LP are:
- Hoarse voice
- Unusual growths (lesions) on the skin and mucus membranes (the moist, inner lining of some organs and body cavities such as the nose, mouth, lungs, and stomach)
- Damage to the temporal lobes or the hippocampus of the brain
